Today I am the Mother of an 8 year old boy. How do those sweet round cheeks slowly fade, those feet grow sizes bigger, those lisps go away, Dora becomes "a baby show", and moments of holding hands grow more rare. Today Elias said to me, "I wish it were tomorrow so that I could go to Scouts (for the first time). Today I wish it were yesterday or the day before that or maybe 4 years ago or the night before his first birthday when I wrote him a letter telling him how much my life had been blessed having him in it. Even then I remember feeling panicked with how fast time had gone. And now I watch my son so grown, so brave facing so many new challenges and experiences in life. I see a boy who loves being silly, playing basketball, who is good with numbers, still has a love for animals and creepy crawling things, loves pokemon and anything with water, has a kind and easy going personality, is a peacemaker, so observant and inquisitive, and loves spending time with his Dad and family.
Elias was a very early talker and loved to put those words into song. One trip home to Utah right after Elias had turned two, I went to the LDS church distribution center with Elias and my Mom. It was dusk on a chilly winter day and when we got out of the car there was the beautiful Ogden temple before us. When EJ saw it he began singing "I Love to See the Temple". He finished the whole first verse. I remember feeling what a special and gentle little boy he was so much like his Grandmother whose hand he was holding. And that is just what he has continued to be.
They have been 8 wonderful years. We love you Elias. You have added so much to our family.

What a stud! I remember when Elias was born, and it does go so fast. You were so sweet to let me babysit him as an infant, when I was so baby hungry! Happy birthday!
CONGRATULATIONS Elias~You are 8! Spencer wishes you a happy day..and still talks about your "halloween party" from last year. What a good, sweet kid!
Laura what a great kid you have!
I sure miss seeing you and just chating!
beautifully said. what a wonderful tribute to your 8 year old. happy birthday elias!
What a beautifully written post. He will adore it when he is older and can truly feel how special he was to you. What a sweetheart, I do remember that cute lisp he had! He looks so big in that first picture! It is sad that they grow up so quickly. I once asked Savannah to stop growing for just a minute and she started crying, "I don't want to mom!" They so desperately want to get older and all we want to do is slow things down a bit!
Laura, loved the post! I feel everyword you wrote. we love that boy!
Thanks for the comment on my blog questions. It is a tough thing to handle correctly. I appreciate your words. Your children are very lucky to have you as their mom. The post about Elias is a gift he will treasure when he is older. Beautifully written.
Happy Birthday Elias!
