How a boy becomes a Dude

Whenever the time comes for Elias to get a haircut (which consists of Whit shaving his head just shy of a BIC razor), he typically resists. That is of course unless we'll agree to give him a mohawk. Recently, after hearing this request over and over, Brooke finally decided to enlighten her parents on the root of the problem. She stated confidently, "See dad, first a kid grows up. Then he starts calling people DUDE. Then he becomes a DUDE, and then he gets a mohawk." It could not have been more clear to Brooke. Now her parents would finally understand and quit rolling their eyes every time Elias asked for one. We of course saw the light, and within the hour our DUDE was walking around the house in his first mohawk. He could not have been more proud, and we could not cut it off fast enough. Within hours he was back to a sunburn potential shave just in time for church.

That is awesome!!! I remember shaving a "AF" in the back of Samuels head when he was in Jr. High and playing football. We let him keep it til Sunday and then off it came for church. It is amazing how some of the little things can satisfy kids and their need to feel like an individual. As parents we definitely have to pick our battles. :-)
