Good Friends Are Hard To Find

"A friend is someone who knows us, but loves us anyway." -Fr. Jerome Cummings

When I was an elementary school girl I had a friend -a best friend- whose father worked at the Pillsbury plant in our town. One day he came home with a couple of sweatshirts that had the Pillsbury Dough Boy and the Jolly Green Giant standing side by side with their arms around each other, beaming smiles on their faces and a caption underneath that said, "Good friends are hard to find." My friend decided to give me the extra sweatshirt and boy did I wear it with pride. We would plan to wear our sweatshirts on the same day. Even going so far as to wear the sleeves pushed up in the same way. I was happy having, and wearing that sweatshirt because I liked her. She was my friend, and the one I most liked playing with. That gift told me that she felt the same way.

In the last two months I have had the opportunity to spend time with two other good friends from my past. Both I had not seen in 6-8 years. These are friends I admire and who have helped shape who I have become. In both instances I left our time together feeling such gratitude for friendship and the opportunity I have had to be blessed so many times in my life with great friends who are good people.

A good friend does not come easily but when they do it shapes you and makes your life experience richer with fuller memories. I hope that each of my children will be blessed with friends who will lead them, teach them, inspire them, and make them better people as I have had.

Thank you to all of you fabulous friends.

and you're welcome. (I'm assuming that I'm one of those fabulous friends. If I'm not, please don't tell me.)

and thank YOU.

Hey Laura! It is Lindsay! I am on Harvey's computer! But I am so happy to be back on the internet where I can read your wonderful blog! What a beautiful entry. I know from personal experience that you are the kind of friend you described so eloquently here. Will you be in UT this summer? HOpe to see you!
